TRI-ANGLE Combatives (TRICOM) is a Self-Defense and Close Quarters Combat system (CQC) comprised of techniques and tactics drawn from fighting systems specializing in 3 major areas, hence the TRI-ANGLE portion of the name. These 3 areas are:
– Weapon and Counter Weapon Tactics from the Filipino Martial Arts, primarily Pekiti-Tirsia Kali.
– Striking from arts such as Muay Thai, Boxing and Kali.
– Grappling and Joint-Manipulations from arts such as BJJ, Wrestling and Kali.
Experience in these arts were put to the test by Jared Wihongi, a former Bouncer and street Cop at a time when he was contracted as a US Army Special Forces Combatives Instructor and working full-time as a Police Trainer and SWAT Operator in a major U.S. City. Since those early days two decades ago, TRICOM has been adopted by some of the most elite police, military and executive protection organizations around the world. The TRICOM program was eventually opened up to civilian self-defense enthusiasts where the techniques and tactics have equal relevance.
TRICOM is a modular program intentionally designed to be relevant to your ‘mission’ whatever that might be. Over the years we’ve helped thousands of people become successful at completing their mission whether protecting yourselves and your loved ones, arresting violent criminals or conducting direct action missions in combat environments. TRICOM has changed the face of Self Defense & Combatives training, and will continue to do so as our affiliate community grows.
If you want to acquire the skills already vetted, trusted and utilized by elite special forces around the world, without having to go through years of training in the process – the answer is TRICOM.

Courses:
Tactical Clinch
This course addresses extreme close-quarter situations where you and a subject have a hold of one another in a physical struggle for control, positions that are commonly referred to as “clinch” positions in the martial arts. We will be addressing the problems involved with common “clinch” techniques taught in martial arts systems, and how to modify the techniques to make them appropriate to real-world, weapon-based environments for law enforcement, military, security personnel or concealed firearms permit holders.
This training will address the possibilities and limitations of extreme close-quarter physical confrontations with assailants. This will minimally include techniques and tactics that take into consideration the reality of circumstances that people must deal with in a weapon-based environment, to include equipment, teamwork, multiple subjects, etc. This course has been taught to multiple Police Trainers, Close Protection Teams, Commandos, and Tactical Team members in Europe and continues to be in demand.
Gross Motor Control Dynamics
Under the stress of a combative self-defense encounter, the human body often experiences what are known as physiological stress symptoms. These include the loss of fine-motor skill and the ability to perform complex motions. With a focus on gross-motor techniques and large joint manipulation, this course trains each participant in recognizing simple index points for gross-motor control, then utilizing those points to perform a handful of takedowns to control (and cuffing when applicable.) With a focus on a couple of “go-to” techniques that are relatively simple yet effective, we train certain contingency techniques that address the most common type of resistance and how to use that resistance to flow into other techniques.
Edged Weapons Countermeasures
Edged weapons assaults are a constant threat for law enforcement and civilians. Knife attacks are common and statistically more lethal than firearms. This course offers pragmatic, real-world, self-defense solutions for knife attacks. It is a training module that builds on critical combat attributes and foundations before transitioning into progressive drills and pressure testing guidelines.
It is an ideal training companion for law enforcement and security professionals, martial artists, and responsibly armed civilians looking to improve their odds at surviving a deadly force encounter with a knife.
Ground S.E.R.E.
The goal of this course is to educate participants on the dangers – and potential benefits – of being on the ground in a self-defense scenario. Ground S.E.R.E. focuses on the four primary priorities of ground survival: Survival | Evasion | Resistance | Escape. Within a limited time frame, these are the areas that become the priority in training and in tactics. Most particularly for individuals who have little to no previous experience in grappling disciplines such as wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We address a hierarchy of tactics from common positions focused on real-world violent encounters, where variables such as weapons and multiple attackers may be present, rather than from a sport based point-of-view.
EDC Knife as a Primary Tool of Defense
In many parts of the world, blades of various designs are carried by people who use them for their function as work tools. With increasing frequency, many people who do not use blades for work are carrying knives as EDC tools (Every Day Carry). In addition to their utility functions, many people carry knives with the intent to use them as defensive weapons, or back-up weapons for those who work with firearms or are licensed to carry firearms.
Duty Knife as a Backup
The Duty Knife as a Backup Weapon Module was created to support and develop the skill sets of law enforcement professionals and responsibly armed civilians under violent combative conditions utilizing the blade as a backup to a firearm.
A large focus of this module is the utilization of the blade as an effective weapon retention tool when the firearm is under threat of being forcibly taken. Training is also provided for situations where your firearm has actually been taken, or is out of battery. Concepts, techniques and tactics are thoroughly explained in both standing and grounded conditions. It takes a logical step-by-step approach to understanding the complexities of dangerous conditions, and provides principle-based solutions to upscale skill sets and improve the odds of survivability.
CQ-FIT
Statistically, around 70% of defensive shootings happen between arms reach and 10ft. The Close-Quarters Firearms Integration Tactics program (CQ-FIT) focuses on surviving lethal force encounters within these extremely close ranges, to include firearms and edged-weapon based assaults. To increase the probability of survival at these ranges, we train a full integration of empty-hand fighting, firearms, edged and impact weaponry.
